The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix is less than a month away, and we're about to start announcing athletes at a fast-and-furious rate. We can't reveal the names yet, but on Monday look for news about at least one Olympic gold medalist and an American distance superstar whose coach knows a thing or two about winning in Boston. If you want to get a jump on tickets and claim the best seats before the post-announcement rush, click here.
Year after year, the Boys' and Girls' Junior Miles at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix are among the best in the country — but that doesn't mean there isn't room for something new. This year, for the first time, the winners of the boys' and girls' seeded high-school miles at the 44th Dartmouth Relays on January 11-13 will automatically qualify for the Boston meet. Not long after they break the tape, our Facebook page will have the 411 on them.
If you've ever wondered what it's like to attend a press conference with an athlete who has just demolished a World Record, take a look at this video of Aries Merritt's post-race presser at last year's final Diamond League meet. “Happy†is an understatement, and “surprised†doesn't begin to describe the Olympic Champion's reaction to the magnitude of what he has just accomplished. Is there more history in the offing when Merritt returns to Boston on February 2?
And now, a challenge for you: Last year, athletes who competed at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix went on to win ten gold medals at the London Olympics. If you “like” our Facebook page, find the post, and then can name all of the 2012 gold-medal athletes, you'll be entered into a drawing to win a pair of New Balance running shoes and an autograph from one of the Olympic Champions. Good luck!
